Katsugi Okedo Intensive

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Katsugi Okedo is one of the most versatile and engaging taiko styles for both performance and practice. With good technique and awareness the drum becomes a part of the performer’s body and the creative possibilities are endless.

Katsugi Okedo is not a style that excels through raw force. The style evolves when a person becomes aware of themselves, the taiko, and how they become one to create a full sound, even with the lightest of bachi. When you understand how to play Katsugi Okedo using your whole body, you will find your natural groove and discover a richness in tone that is uniquely your own.

In this intensive, Eri Uchida will work with katsugi enthusiasts to build a deeper and much-more nuanced understanding of fundamentals and technique and apply it to “Summer Song,” a very special composition that Eri co-produced with Shoji Kameda during the time in pandemic . The full potential and expression of this piece can only be released when each performer has discovered their own unique groove through truly fleshing through fundamentals and understanding their one connection with their taiko. Let’s Eri-vate Katsugi Okedo together!
