This workshop focuses on refining the core movement and rhythmic concepts of the piece ‘Omiyage’, one of the taiko world’s most popular compositions. Participants will deepen their understanding of how to execute Omiyage movement correctly and be taught drills and techniques that will improve their ability to play and teach the piece. We will also dive into the rhythmic and musical elements of the piece and learn new ways to teach the lines that will set the foundation for playing the chudaiko parts accurately. By the end of the workshop participants will have a deeper understanding of the piece and feel more confident in performing and teaching Omiyage. Participants will also have an opportunity to perform Omiyage with players from throughout the taiko community at the kaDON 10th Anniversary Performance at NATC-R Seattle.

Prerequisites: Participants must know the piece Omiyage and be confident enough to play through either the chudaiko or the shime/okedo part.
