When we compose taiko pieces we often have a rhythm or small idea but don’t know what to do with it. This intensive will give participants a great set of tools that they can apply to rhythms and phrases that will help them develop their ideas into something more substantial. Participants will get a hands-on opportunity to compose a new piece together through a facilitated process with Shoji. We will learn how to develop small ideas into larger parts, how to develop these ideas into full pieces and we will learn techniques and strategies to overcome common hurdles in the creative process. By the end of this intensive participants will have a set of creative tools, have some first hand experience through a facilitated composition process and have the beginnings of a new piece they can further develop in their own groups.

Prerequisites: None! Just some curiosity and desire to be creative!
