Participants can expect to come out of this workshop with an understanding of how to perform Hokkai Bon Uta on the chudaiko, how to dance to the song, and a basic knowledge of the song’s background.

The workshop will be divided into three segments. In the first segment, we will cover the song’s historical and geographic origin, the lyrics, and the structure. In the second segment, we will learn an arrangement for the chudaiko. And in the third segment, we are excited to learn the dance from Tyler Moriguchi.

I have been playing Bon Odori music since I was 7 or 8. It’s music that is very personal to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share this music together. Looking forward to seeing you soon! - Isaku
