Participants will learn three pieces of Bon Taiko repertoire: Hokkai Bon Uta, Sohma Bon Uta, and Tanko Bushi. In addition to learning the music and style of each piece, we will briefly discuss the history and context of each of the selections. This workshop will also touch on the nuances of ensemble music and supporting the singers and dancers in a Bon Taiko-style setting. Our goal will be to go beyond playing the notes and to focus on listening to the musical atmosphere that we can build as a cohesive ensemble.
