At BachiCamp, Taiko, Shamisen and Fue players alike have the opportunity to jump into learning Tacoma Bayashi - a fun ensemble piece written by your fearless workshop leaders - on all three instruments!! If you're a taiko player who's never touched a shamisen before? No problem! We will start from the shamisen basics, and have technique refinement support for those who have prior experience. There's something to learn for everyone!
To provide a lasting learning experience, we divide the day into separate blocks that focus on a different instrument in the song. Together, we build the skills to enjoy the art of ensemble playing with fue, taiko and shamisen!
Song notation for all instruments is available for workshop participants to take and play with their own groups.
Prerequisites:
- Fue: Ability to sound the higher octaves (for those who want to join the fue block)
- Taiko: Beginner to intermediate level. (Two-drum set experience recommended)
- Shamisen: None
Please Bring:
- #6 Fue for those who want to join the fue block. If you have fue experience but don't have a #6 fue, please contact Kyle (kyle@bachido.com) and he'll bring you an extra fue to use!
- Bachi (Chu and Shime bachi)
- If you have your own shamisen, you can bring it!
