At BachiCamp, Taiko, Shamisen and Fue* players alike have the opportunity to jump into learning Tacoma Bayashi - a fun ensemble piece written by your fearless workshop leaders - on all three instruments!! If you're a taiko player who's never touched a shamisen before? No problem! We will start from the shamisen basics, and have technique refinement support for those who have prior experience. There's something to learn for everyone!

To provide a lasting learning experience, we divide the day into separate blocks that focus on a different instrument in the song. Together, we build the skills to enjoy the art of ensemble playing with taiko and shamisen!

*For fue, please sign up for the Saturday Intensive. The Sunday intensive will focus only on taiko and shamisen.

Song notation for all instruments is available for workshop participants to take and play with their own groups.

Prerequisites:
  • Taiko: Beginner to intermediate level. (Two-drum set experience recommended)
  • Shamisen: None
Please Bring:
  • Bachi (Chu and Shime bachi)
  • If you have your own shamisen, you can bring it!
