Introduction to Shishimai

This mini-intensive will cover the movements of Edo Kotobuki Jishi, the traditional celebratory shishimai of Tokyo. Taught in the Wakayama Ryu method, you will learn the many detailed gestures of the shishi such as jumping over the mountain, biting the chest, licking the leg, playing with the mikan, sleeping, and much more. We will also cover the history and significance of this longstanding traditional Japanese art form. This shishimai involves a lot of physicality so you should be prepared with loose clothing, long pants, water, and a towel.

Prerequisites: have full-body mobility without pain
